We are currently seeking an intern to join our team during the summer of 2026. Candidates should be currently in a bachelor’s degree program that is determined to be appropriate preparation for employment in the marketing field and have demonstrated experience in marketing/communications through their coursework, prior internships, work experience and/or extracurricular activities.
Responsibilities
- Bring CI’s programs and services to life through creative marketing and communications support
- Help execute marketing campaigns and communications plans that connect with entrepreneurs and partners across Connecticut
- Draft engaging content for email newsletters, internal staff updates, and digital displays throughout the office
- Keep our website fresh and up to date – from writing new posts to uploading updates in WordPress
- Jump in on social media – monitor activity, brainstorm content, and help execute posts that showcase CI’s impact
- Support the planning and execution of CI events, from logistics to on-the-ground coordination

In this role, you’ll get to put your fingerprint on all facets of finance – from capital allocation and planning, to reporting and analysis, due diligence and investment management, accounting, and capital markets.
Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Support financial planning and budget management functions for operating companies including monitoring and analyzing results against budget and preparation of financial outlooks and financial forecasts.
- Help prepare monthly board and lender reporting packages.
Capital Allocation and Long-term Planning
- Support the annual budgeting process across CI. This includes working with CI investors to model out projections and valuations, and the consolidation of our portfolio companies’ forecasts for board approval.
Trusted Finance Partner to Leadership
- Work with CI leadership to interpret key operational performance drivers and growth trends.
Capital Sourcing
- Play an integral role in capital needs to fuel our investments, cash management, and equity recapitalization events
Accounting
- Help evaluate the financial and impact performance of investments against their objectives and their competitive landscape.
- Support the accurate and timely creation and dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external financial statements, reconciliations of accounts and performance reports.
- Support the cash management process including oversight for capital calls, capital expenditures, borrowing and lending activities and accounts payable (including signing of checks).
Qualifications
- Current MBA or undergraduate student studying finance, accounting, economics, business administration, or a related field
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and identify key trends
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with financial modeling and forecasting techniques is a plus

We are seeking bachelor’s degree and MBA students with a strong interest in venture capital with a desire to match their academic work with professional work experience. Preference will be given to candidates demonstrating curriculum, research and/or practical experience alignment with our mission and enrolled in a Connecticut College or University or a resident of Connecticut.
Responsibilities
- Data collection and analysis on prospective investments
- Cash flow modeling for individual projects, programs, or investments
- Sourcing potential investments through online research and in person visits
- with initial assessments of applicant’s business plans in relation to CI investment criteria

Venture Debt Fund
CI’s Venture Debt Fund provides flexible financing to early- and late-stage tech companies through venture and mezzanine debt. This type of capital helps startups grow without giving up significant equity. Mezzanine debt is a hybrid of debt and equity – typically offering higher interest rates and including warrants (the right to buy equity) as part of the return. We offer loans from $150,000 to $2 million, with fixed interest rates between 6% and 12%, terms of 3 to 5 years, and liens on company assets as collateral.

Venture Debt Team Internship
Join CI’s Venture Debt Team to gain hands-on venture capital experience in a fast-paced, innovative environment. Interns contribute to projects that strengthen the venture infrastructure, support due diligence, and drive portfolio success.
The Venture Debt Team is small in size, but each team member plays a pivotal role. The team values diverse perspectives, bold thinking, and mission alignment.
Responsibilities
- Collect and analyze data on portfolio activity, industries, markets, and competitors
- Support investment monitoring, financial analysis, and market research
- Assist with due diligence, including business plan assessment and company evaluations
- Build financial models and prepare presentations for the CI Investment Committee
- Contribute to lead generation, sourcing, and business development activities
Qualifications
- Current MBA or undergraduate student
- Strong interest in venture capital and early-stage innovation
- Analytical and financial modeling skills or coursework in finance, economics, or accounting
- Based in or studying in Connecticut
- Available to work on-site two days per week (Mondays and Wednesdays required) in New Haven
